PALMA-2019

PALMA-2019

It is with great honour that I have been appointed Captain of the 2019 Australian Palma
Team to be held at Trentham, New Zealand.
Nominations have been called for coaches and shooters.

The closing date for nominations is 28 April 2017.

The intention is to select a large squad that will trial at the completion of the
QRA Queens in August 2017.  This allows no interference with the 3rd Commonwealth Games trials just prior to
the 2017 NRAA Queens.  From this selection trial an initial Palma squad of 24 shooters, five coaches and a
master coach will form the Palma Development Squad.  It is my ambition to have this development
squad which is not too large to manage to build a high performance mentality/ability
within the group as hopefully the group will be a mix of experienced
international shooters and some new talent.

The Palma Development Squad will then be required to shoot in New Zealand in the 2018
WLRC dummy run, approx. 28 Jan to 4 Feb 2018.  The Palma Team will be selected after this
event, however I intend to have the “fifth squad” (coach and shooters) continue
to train and have full barrel and tech. support in order to allow a larger
developed pool of High Performance members to draw on as first replacements if
necessary and for the benefit of future Australian Teams.

You are probably aware that the National State Teams Championships are scheduled for
around September 2018 in West Australia.
Each state will have their own preferred team barrel and approach to the
Teams Championships, however the fundamentals of team shooting will be a
parallel to the Australian Team.  State Team
practice will be of benefit, however the financial burden of travel and
accommodation to both W.A. and N.Z. and personal leave within a short time
frame will have to be considered and planned for well in advance.

In view of the above regional training weekends would assist in helping keep the cost and
time off work to a minimum, however full team training  would need to occur at either the QRA Queens
2018 , Canberra Queens 2018 or possibly at the completion of the National Teams
Matches in W.A. 2018.
