Congratulations to Geoff Grenfell of the Bendigo Rifle Club in Victoria who has qualified for his second Commonwealth Games team after another high quality performance in the sixth qualifying match in Victoria. Geoff has built up an unassailable lead by winning two Australia Cups, one Queens, two pairs matches and several second placings during the six matches to date. Even if Geoff does not compete in the seventh match in Brisbane, his spot is assured as the top two competitors win selection. Australia can feel proud and confident with Geoff in the team, as he is a proven performer who already has a Commonwealth Games gold medal from the 1994 matches in Canada. The competition for the second spot is coming down to the wire with four quality competitors remaining in the hunt to secure a Games team spot. Mark Buchanan has the wood on Jim Bailey, James Corbett and Peter Pearce, but it is theoretically possible for any one of the latter three to knock Buchanan out of the running. The final Australia Cup will be held on the Monday 22nd June 2009 on the day after the NRAA Queens in Brisbane. The competition remains open to any NRAA member who would like to nominate and who meets the criteria (conditions are on the NRAA website). With prestigious medals still on offer for the winners of the individual and pairs matches, members are invited to nominate for the match and be part of history as the final Commonwealth Games team member wins selection. Following are the 2010 CG Elimination - Progressive Point Scores After Match 6 of 7 - VRA March 2009.
